1,000 Books Before Kindergarten: The 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program is a nationally recognized library program that encourages families and caregivers to read at least 1,000 books with their young children before they enter kindergarten.  Studies have shown that families who start reading aloud to their children at birth help build language skills, cultivate an extensive vocabulary, and improve attention spans and listening skills--important tools for beginning to learn to read in kindergarten.  The average picture book takes just 5 minutes to read.  If you read 3 books a day, just 15 minutes, for a year, you and your child will have read 1,095 books!  Stop in to grab your official 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten reading log and stamp to begin your journey!  Earn prizes along the way as you reach milestones!
