Top four ways to prevent “summer slide,” and ways your
Runnells Community Library can help!
1. Encourage your kid to read.
This summer’s theme is Level Up: Build your character at the library. Engagement is key and finding what works for your family and your little one is so important! This year we will be using punch cards to track our incentives.
2. Reward your child's efforts.
This summer we aim to provide you with multiple ways to engage in reading. Choose one or choose them all! So many ways to win while reading! Each time you complete any of the following you will receive a punch on your punch card.
*Bring in your monthly RCL reading log to also collect your Papa Murphy’s cookie dough coupon! Or show us your Book-It participation.
*Take part in our punch card challenge! Receive one punch for each picture book read and/or one punch for each chapter read!
*Each time you check out a book in person on Libby you get a punch. One per book!
*Return your Summer Reading Challenge and get two punches! Participants will also be rewarded from Mrs. Wilson and Mrs. Eremieff. with a seat at the RAMS table for lunch and an ice cream treat.
*Join in one of our many in-house challenge
*Participants this year can also earn Free I-Cubs Tickets! (2 per participant once one punch card is completed and turned in.) Aug 17th at 1:00 at Principal Park.
At the end of the summer party, Aug 8th, will be complete with a Minecraft Game Night and Movie Pizza Party. We will have the Game On mobile gaming truck available for those who participated. We will spin the wheel of names for prizes and reward you all for a job well done! You can win even if you can’t attend.
3. Choose the right books.
Kids should be reading books that interest them most and challenge their current reading level, without being so difficult that reading causes frustration. If you need help finding your next book or series, we would love to help you! Grab a “Choose A Just-Right Book” bookmark to guide you in appropriate selections for your child!
4. Read aloud to your child.
Come join us for one of our story times, story walks, or programs! Let us read it to you too!
